I was going to say that there is no such thing as a free lunch, but refrained as I’m aware that it is a dying phrase! The new generation is growing up in an economy where free is normal and not just something with a catch! See the short video clip with Chris Anderson discussing “free”. This is going to require a lot of what Duncan Bucknell was talking about, and that is “debate about how the intellectual property system should evolve“. Surely there must be lessons for IP practitioners in a public goods environment here — but which ones?
