What do the words “intellectual property” mean to others?

When working to raise awareness of IP issues (or any other issue for that matter) it is essential to take into account other messages your audience might also be receiving.
This article commissioned by the Intellectual Property Institute, goes some way to explaining some of the “views, perceptions and general understanding of intellectual property.”  By examining media headlines the author has also explored the connections often made, such as, “IP = patents”  “Patents reward the individual inventor” and evidence of IP being negatively associated with the globalisation debate.

Victoria Henson-Apollonio who sent me the article said:

“Whilst not the final word, … it does however get the point across that there is an emotional aspect associated with the words “intellectual property” that people like myself must take into account in my work”
